Every curl deserves a treat every once in a while. I had the opportunity to test and review the new hair care line for curly girls, the Garnier Fructis Curl Treats line. This lovely opportunity was presented to me by Influenster. As you know, I never pass up the opportunity to try out new goodies, especially products for my hair.
Garnier Fructis Curl Treats
Curl Treats is a new line by Garnier Fructis. This line consists of three products – a smoothie, butter, and a jelly. These products are made with 98% naturally derived ingredients and claims to style and care for your hair without frizz for 24 hours. That’s a really big claim, especially to someone like me who knows the effects of humidity on a summer day. I’ve had more Don King moments than I would like to count.
When I received this VoxBox from Influenster, I was excited to try a new hair product that was made of naturally derived products and lacked the ingredients I have been staying away from. And anyone who knows me, knows I am a loyal DevaCurl user. These products would have a tough time wowing me.
Curl Treats Curl Smoothie
I decided to try the Curl Treats Curl Smoothie firsts. The Garnier Fructis Curl Treats Smoothie is what I would consider a light-weight moisturizing styler. The texture is very similar to the Cantu Coconut Curling Cream. If you are looking for a similar product, the Curl Smoothie is a great runner up. I used it on freshly washed soaking wet hair and raked the product through with my fingers. There was a good amount of slip so my hand was able to glide through my hair without much effort.
This specific product promises definition and 24-hour frizz-free hair. I was nervous that there would be similar to a strong holding product, in order to make the frizz-free hair true. No one likes stiff and crunchy curls. To my surprise, the Curl Smoothie held up to its claims. I had really defined touchable and bouncy curls. No added crunch.
Curl Treats Curl Butter
When I opened the jar of the Garnier Fructis Curl Butter, I was very concerned about the texture. The texture is very thick and oily. If you are like me, you will want to use this product in very small quantities. I spared myself a headache and did not use this product on its own. I knew it would weigh my curls down too much. BUT, I did use this as a moisturizer after styling and drying my hair.
I like this product as a moisturizer. It worked wonders during my recent trip to Milwaukee and Denver. We all know how harsh freezing cold temperatures can be on our hair. But my hair was able to withstand the cold, thanks to the Curl Treat Butter.
My Thoughts: #CurlTreats
I like the Curl Treats Smoothie, a lot. I could definitely see it as a replacement if I run out of my staple DevaCurl products. The Curl Treats Butter is a little heavy for my liking. I would only use it as an added boost of moisture, especially during the colder months or if my hair just feels dry. I could also see the Curl Treats Butter as a good styler for certain styles, like a flexi-rod set or twist out, where you may use heat to dry your hair. Overall, a good product line and it seems like each product caters more to a specific hair type or style, making it work for all hair types in some way, shape, or form. The only product I was not able to try was the Curl Treats Jelly, but I don’t think it would have been useful to my hair since it is more of a light gel (or so I have heard).
